Don’t drink and drive

The slogan might be so common that we overlook it.

Next time before you go out drinking make sure you have a designated driver or some change for a cab.

The other option would be stay home and get chocolate wasted.

It just makes it easier for you and I; safer roads and no tickets.

As much as not drinking and driving could save lives, it could also save you a lot of money.

The cost of drinking and driving is so expensive.

Here is a little breakdown of what it could cost you:

If you were ever pulled over with a BAC of over .08 you are looking at one week jail time.

This could be different in each state but the bail costs anywhere from $1500 and above.

Then you are looking at court fees that would range from $650 and above, again this is variable.

As if that’s not enough, you get hit with probation fines ranging from $300.

The list goes on. The court orders a drug evaluation test that costs anywhere from $100 and upwards. Then you need to pray and hope that you are seen as an outpatient and not in patient depending on the results.

You will be required to take classes over a long period depending on your results. This would be like an  AAA class that ranges between $2500-$5000.

While you are still making all these payments, your driving privileges are being suspended anywhere from 6 months to a year.

You could get a work permit that allows you to drive to and from work.

That will cost you an extra $240.

Before the DMV can issue a work permit you have to show proof for an SR-22 document that is available from your insurance company.

Your insurance company will then charge an extra fee on top of your insurance. This could be anywhere from $50 monthly until your driving privileges are given back.

Depending on the level of your BAC you might be required to install an inter lock which costs between $1000-$2500.

You could get a court appointed defender or you could pay for one depending on your income.

They charge by the hour. You might be looking at anywhere from $3000 upwards.

When all has been said and done, you will be required to pay to reinstate your license at the end of your suspension which is only a mere $40.

Now next time before you drink and drive, do the above math and see if you can afford it.

Move Toward Freedom

Our life is in our own hands! Isn’t this amazing?

Our life is in our own hands!

All we have to do, is take responsibility!

We are so used nowadays to look somewhere else for help, for love, for mistakes that were made, for pleasure, for pain, for a reason why life just doesn’t seem to go the way we would like it to be, for support, for money, for happiness, for God, for the truth, for peace, for freedom.

But all we need to do, is look inside. The answers are right here!

If we take responsibility for ourselves, we can see that we can help ourselves, that love is within us, that we made mistakes, we can be happy, we can support ourselves, that God is within us, and we can be free!

All we have to do, is believe in ourselves. THAT…

Live & Learn

We’ve all either given or received the career advice: “Follow your dreams.”  “Do what you love.”  “Love what you do.”

Recently, there have been an increasing number of counterarguments making the case that if we were all going to “do what we love,” we’d starve doing it.

I came across a 2006 post by Paul Graham: “How To Do What You Love” that offers what may be the best thought-leadership on the subject that I have read.

Graham is an essayist, programmer, and investor. In 1995, he co-developed the first web-based application, Viaweb, which was acquired by Yahoo in 1998. He has an AB from Cornell and a PhD in Computer Science from Harvard, and studied painting at RISD and the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence.  Graham’s blog is one of the most followed in the blogosphere.

It is an essay (longish for those of us with…

A wonderful service

It is always a refreshing a moment after a long week of hardships and disappointments, to embark in church and receive that powerful and encouraging sermon. It’s amazing how in an instant that bad feeling could just be lifted away by sitting in a church for a good minutes or so.

Today’s sermon came from the book of Judges 13:26-31. It spoke about the birth of Samson and how it was foretold. He had been chosen by God to save the Israelites from the Philistines.
God gave orders which Samson failed to obey. For as long as Samson obeyed he remained powerful and killed many Philistines, but the moment he disobeyed and told his secret to Delilah, he lost his strength.
God gives laws and orders to lead, guide, and protect us.

But the world has a way to sugar coat sin and make it acceptable and beautiful. Well the bad news is as we continue to celebrate in sin, God drifts away from us and obviously so does His blessings.
When things begin to go in a way that we do not expect we need to stop and look back and question ourselves if somewhere along the way we fell out of the love of God.

The moment we go back and repent and ask Him to have mercy on us, He is always ready to give us another chance and allow us back. Therefore take this moment and figure where you went wrong and allow Him to come in and make it better.

Have a blessed week.

Mind over Muscle

It is not the size of your body but the capacity of your brain to work. I am strong believer in manipulating things to my advantage. I call it brain power.

A small idea, well nurtured could become a movement or grow into something very huge. If I were you I wouldn’t discard that idea. Yes that one. Give it a shot. Here is what amazes me; when I go to sleep, my mind stays awake. Interesting huh?

Never give up your mind for a thing of protein shake. It aint no fair trade if you know what I mean. There’s hardly a thing that the mind could not do if it is set to do it. Key thing is persistence.

A famous quote from my clinical instructor goes like this,”did I tell you it would be easy?”. Usually this is not meant to discourage but to encourage enthusiasm and focusing on the task at hand.

Everything needs time, and usually pays off in no time. Why mind over muscle? Well, you could break into a bank and make away with millions, but will later be brought to justice. But you could go to school and do a degree and make clean money.

Every invention that we see now started as an idea. And each of these ideas failed several times before finally becoming alive. You should these words with me: NO MATTER HOW LONG IT TAKES, I WILL PERSEVERE.

Who is with me?

A toast to second chance

How do you turn wrong into right? It is very hurtful to oneself and others that look up to you when you fall short of the expectations. So what do you do when this happens? Obviously it is not the end of the world, and what has happened can never be undone.

As much as it is true that you cannot undo a mistake, it is surely time to take responsibility of the situation and make it better. First of all you have to accept the mistake and be able to move past it.

The more you dwell on it the more it keeps haunting you and will not be able to get over it. Be mature about it and decide to move on. It is never that bad. Every mistake is an opportunity to become a better person IF you learn from it.

As much as I would like to condemn a wrongdoing I am just not in the place to. Jesus himself said to the scribes about a woman who was caught in adultery,” if any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone”. Apparently nobody did. Our guilty conscience always convicts us.

Our goal should be to better ourselves and to live at peace with everyone. Once bitten twice shy. Learn from your mistakes and pick yourself up and move on instead of beating yourself up for it. It does not do you any good.

God that grants us mercy is always forgiving and ready to give second chances. Remember the two thieves that were crucified with Jesus? The moment the thief on His right confessed to his sins and asked for forgiveness, it was a gateway to heaven. He was forgiven right there and then.

What if Jesus would have to ask the thief to go back and return everything that he had stolen from the people first then come back and ask for forgiveness? The thief being stuck on the cross would not have received eternal life with Jesus. Jesus is our hope and forgives as we come. He says we do not know what we are doing.

Glory be to God.

What gives you hope when you are down?

Close your eyes, what do you see?

The mind is the most interesting thing to me. If I could I would take it out and stare at it sometimes. It’s amazing what a person could do if only they envisioned it in their minds.

I thought about writing this blog today after having a conversation with one of my friends. I loved is determination. He said he would not stop until he gets where he has dreamt of.

I realized a lot of us could be in situations where succeeding in life seems impossible. You only fail the moment you quit trying. Dream big and enlarge your vision. Give yourself a chance to live your dreams.

Surround yourself with people who are doing big things, do not be intimidated by them. They are in your life for a purpose. You should have a vision and persistence. It’s hard to imagine that things we sometimes fail to do results in our failure.

Go on and cultivate on your dreams and visions and move yourself up in an environment where you feel closer to your vision. Whenever you lay in your bed begin to see yourself in that place where you want to be.

Pave that way to your dream and don’t give up until you get there. The moment you begin to dream, your life begins to take up the shape of your dream. That is how it is supposed to be.

If you can dream it, you can do it. The closest you could get to your vision is through your dreams. Do not be afraid to dream, dream big and believe.

What do you do to get close to your vision?

I must have it…

Obstacles are what you see when you take your eyes off the goal. It is easy to get distracted sometimes especially when your goal is not well-defined.

The moment you make up your mind to do a certain thing, it is then that other things begin to attract you. If you are not careful you will get drifted away by the waves of life.

I was hitting a conversation the other day with an elderly woman and she went on talking about how proud she was about her sons. She had been complimented several times for raising her kids well. “If you want something yet you can’t afford it, do not buy it”, She told me. “That is what I taught my sons and they grew up to be very happy”, She added.

Goals, goals, goals. Always have goals. A goal is like a map to your destination. A goal will decide every step that you take. The elderly woman taught her sons to save up for the things they craved for and until they could afford them, then they could not have them.

As soon as you learn to set up goals and gear up towards achieving them then you will see that everything will begin to fall into place. Simply cut everything that is swaying you away from it. It could be the company you keep or the places you go to or the things that you do.

How do you plan to achieve your goals?
